Befriending Gon Freecss during the Hunter Exam, the pair decide to go on a quest to find Gon's father.
But he rebelled against his family and ran away from home. Born as the middle child to a family of renowned assassins, the Zoldyck family, Killua mastered the trade at a young age and was designated to be the heir to the family business. Killua Zoldyck ( キルア=ゾルディック, Kirua Zorudikku ?) is the deuteragonist of the series. His voice in Madhouse's adaptation is provided by Megumi Han.
In Nippon Animation's 1999 adaptation, he is voiced by Junko Takeuchi in the Japanese version and Elinor Holt in the English dub. Gon has been received well by Japanese readers, placing third in the first character popularity poll. Throughout the series, Gon adventures alongside his best friend Killua Zoldyck as a Hunter. His recklessness often leads him into getting into situations harmful to himself. However, Gon is simultaneously prone to influence by things he finds intriguing regardless of their inherent ethics. He is naturally talented in a variety of ways, including superhuman senses, uncanny learning potential, social skills, and immense strength. Gon wants to become a Hunter in order to understand the reason behind why his father chose the profession over being with him. Their meeting steers Gon towards deciding to search for Ging and to take the Hunter Exam.

Seven years later, Gon meets his father's apprentice, Kite, who proceeds to tell him of his father's existence and occupation as a professional Hunter. Prior to the start of the series, Gon's father Ging leaves Gon as an infant in the care of his cousin Mito in his hometown of Whale Island. Gon Freecss ( ゴン=フリークス, Gon Furīkusu ?) is the twelve-year-old protagonist of Hunter × Hunter.
